Rocío Cagg

Rocío Cagg is a Spanish photographer based in Madrid.

Among the various media with which she works, photography lies at the core, complemented by video and writing. She conceives her work as a mental production that stems from constantly reasoning her archive, which is not solely fuelled by photography.

Her working method is based on the a posteriori discovery of the image, until she reaches a kind of fictional photographic writing, imaginatively and mentally altering the image's context.

This form of writing and its aesthetic draw on literature, cinema and art — references that accumulate over time and may emerge whether before or after the photograph is taken.

In 1999, she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, specialising in photography and audiovisual media.

In 2009, she completed the Master's in Contemporary Documentary Photography at the now-defunct EFTI, an international photography and film school in Madrid, where she met Eduardo Momeñe — a leading figure in Spanish photography — whose thinking has influenced the understanding and development of her photographic work. She would later attend two of his workshops, 'La Puerta Abierta' (2024) and 'Narrativa Fotográfica' (2025).

At the same time, she has been undertaking photography-related projects such as agenda.Madrid.foto and criticaphotografica Ediciones, under whose imprint she is self-publishing her first photographic book.
